About DeepWorkCal

A place to
try the ideas.

DeepWorkCal is an independent educational guide inspired by Cal Newport's book Deep Work and his public teaching.

We have no affiliation with Cal Newport and claim no endorsement. “Deep work,” “shallow work” and “shutdown” are terms used in his writing. We did not invent time blocking.

The diagrams, examples, practice prompts and interactive planner are our own interpretations. The schedules are illustrative, with no measured productivity outcomes attached.

Your planner draft stays in local browser storage. It is not sent to our server and does not sync between devices. Clearing site data removes it; printing gives you a copy to keep. The practice checklists, the deep work streak and a saved shutdown ritual are stored the same way. Public pages retain the site's Google Tag Manager tracking.

The stories page retells people and places from Deep Work and Digital Minimalism in our own words. We quote the books only in a few short lines, always credited and linked to the publishers, so you can read the rest there. The drawings are ours.

Videos on the resources page come from Newport's official YouTube channel and load only when you ask for them. The quotes from other people on the home page come from their public blog posts, linked to the originals; none of them endorses this site.
